A good agent is like a good family doctor

A good estate agent is like a family doctor – they should both have plenty of qualifications, as well as a personal touch.

Every year, unlicensed agents cause London’s homebuyers and sellers unnecessary stress and hassle – and sometimes loss of money – by giving incorrect or misleading advice, or offering poor standards of customer service.

That’s why when I opened the doors of Horton and Garton almost five years ago, my first move was to become a licensed ARLA and NAEA agent.

For anyone looking to rent, ARLA is the only word you should look for when dealing with an agent. The Association of Residential Letting Agents has a strict code of practice on how agents should operate and guarantees that the agent is fully insured.

It’s a bit of peace of mind. And in my 18 years in the industry, I’ve heard enough horror stories from tenants and landlords alike – mostly created by unlicensed agents.

For landlords, we want to be as flexible as possible, so our fees are billed monthly, and our management and accounts teams are located in our office.

We also pride ourselves on using the best local contractors in west London, with glowing references from years of working in Hammersmith and Shepherds Bush.

When it comes to the National Association of Estate Agents qualifications, all of my team are either qualified on currently in the process of qualifying.

We know that buying our selling a home is one of the biggest financial deals that most Londoners will ever embark upon. It’s stressful enough finding the right house or the right buyer – which makes our goal the smoothest possible transaction. The thanks come in the end from happy clients. Whether you are buying, selling or just want to rent a flat, stop by and check out the tributes from years of happy customers.

Just like the name suggests, Horton and Garton is an independent, family-owned business. We treat our customers like family, too. Currently, we do not have a single tenant behind on their rent, which shows that our personal approach really does pay off.

So if you are looking for a friendly, local estate agent with a clean bill of health, look out for Horton and Garton.
