Horton and Garton FC climb to third.

H&G FC beat The Wrong Direction in a 10-4 hammering!

The boys learnt from last week’s narrow victory by establishing an early lead with three quick goals. They all stemmed from positive runs down the wings by the two full backs (Ben Francis and Isaac Cornford) and were finished by Jack Kelsey and Daniel De Falbe after Josh Chering played three perfectly timed balls through The Wrong Direction’s defense.

The lads were superior throughout the entirety of the match and after an awe-inspiring hat-trick of volleys from Joe Kelly, went in at half time with a 6-2 lead. The margin would have even more substantial if not for some inspirational saves from the opposition goal keeper, Oscar Tapper.

It was a case of more of the same in the second half for H&G, with Ben Francis slotting one neatly into the corner, and Joe Kelly improving on his hat-trick with an assist by threading a ball down the wing to Isaac whose shot across goal found Jack to tap in at the bottom corner.

The Wrong Direction’s offensive play improved in the last quarter and it took some convincing saves from Bob Ward and strong blocks from Josh and Ben for H&G to sustain their lead, but the boys kept attacking and in the closing stages Jack completed his hat-trick with a perfectly timed chip into the corner of the goal, followed by Isaac who capitalized on some defensive blunders to roll the ball in at the far post and make it 10 to the good.

Man of the match: Joe Kelly, for his tactical awareness and excellent finishing. Horton and Garton now climb to third in the league.
