Horton and Garton win their second game of the season!

Horton and Garton beat Rivercourt Rangers by 9 goals to 8

Horton and Garton FC recovered from last week’s narrow defeat to St Monty’s with a tight and dramatic win against top of the league Rivercourt Rangers.

The team started the game superbly with some great passing and convincing penetration of the opposition’s defense to lead 3-1 in the opening 10 minutes. Rivercourt Rangers crawled back to level though through some defensive mistakes and a wonder strike. H&G responded by tightening up at the back, and the game was at deadlock with end-to-end passages of play from both sides.

Horton and Garton then injected some explosive energy down both wings and, with some neat finishes from the center forwards, they led by 5 goals to 3 at half time.

In the second half the game got tense; H&G would go ahead by a goal or two, only for the opposition to crawl back level. But Horton and Garton FC kept it together and never went behind.

With few halfway belters from Josh Chering, the score was 7-7.

With 5 minutes to go, man of the match Isaac Cornford threaded a brilliant ball through their defense to give Ben Francis the opportunity to finish neatly in the bottom corner and H&G took the lead once again.

A two goal lead was established with a deft chip over the Keeper by Daniel De Falbe, and the boys dropped into a more defensive formation to see the game out.

The game ended in tense fashion with some crucial diving saves from our goal keeper. This was still not enough to keep Rivercourt Rangers from scoring once more with a last minute volley; however this was to be the last goal of the match, and the game ended 9-8 to H&G.

A dramatic end, but Horton and Garton FC held their nerve and cashed in with their second win of the season. Man of the Match: Isaac Cornford for his tactical position, pace and passing.
