5 easy ways to make the most of your Summer garden
Wheelers Garden Centre of Chiswick share their top gardening tips to improve your garden this Summer
Lockdown has seen the number of gardening-related Google searches skyrocket, with thousands using their newly free time to try their hand at gardening. One garden centre that has noticed an increase in demand is Wheelers on Turnham Green Terrace. We asked the Centre Manager Giles Hyamski to share his top failsafe tips that even the most amateur of gardeners can try to be rewarded with a beautiful backyard this Summer.
1.Hydrangeas
Every garden should have a Hydrangea! With a wide variety on offer, there is one suitable for all. This wonderful shrub can either be planted in the ground or pots and will tolerate semi-sun to shade. Use a rich compost and water generously. Enjoy the fantastic blooms all summer long.
2. Plant for Bee, Butterflies and Pollinators.
Encourage as much wild life into the Garden by planting plants that are rich in nectar. Here are a few of our favourites; Lavander, Nepeta, Jasmine and a wide variety of daisy to choose from.
3. Weeds and Feeds.
We are inundated with questions on weeds and feeds. Help prevent weeds by filling Beds full of plants. Use a thick layer of mulch (either an organic compost/ manure or Bark Chipping) to suppress the growth of weeds.
Feeding ; especially in containers is a must during the summer, Use Liquid Seaweed every week to help keep your plants strong and healthy.
4. Pelargonium aka the Geranium
The ultimate beginner plant. These native plants from South Africa are in a league of their own, no other plant will non-stop flower from Spring to Winter. They are extremely versatile and will thrive in everything from full, hot sun and windy balcony’s, to low lit basements. Dead head to encourage more buds and better displays. Protect in winter to guarantee it for next year.
5. House Plants
Even if you don’t have a garden, house plants are a great way to improve wellbeing and brighten up any room in the house. With a wide selection in store to choose from you can create a little oasis in your own home.
