Calls for a Hammersmith ‘flyunder’

are intensifying after I wrote about it in this column a fortnight ago. The Hammersmith section of the A4 has long divided our community from the riverside and driven us all just a little bit crazy. So to hear London Mayor Boris Johnson and H&F Council call for TfL to stump up £150m to replace the flyover with an underpass should give extra horsepower to flyunder lobbying from local residents. But it all comes down to money. If TfL can sell off a bit of the freed-up land to developers, the scheme could get the green light. And just think – it would mean the end of the road for the controversial bridge linking the council’s new-look town hall and Furnivall Gardens. Now that is progress.
