With warmer weather we turn our thoughts to socialising under the sun and where you can find outdoor dining in West London.

There are many excellent outdoor restaurants in Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith and Chiswick and the surrounding areas to consider visiting throughout the summer months.

From restaurants that have dining areas under pergolas to secret gardens and members’ clubs with exclusive rooftop swimming pools, here we explore some of the outdoor dining venues to visit in the area.

Outdoor restaurants Chiswick

W4 is known for its many excellent eateries, several venues dotted along Chiswick High Road have outdoor seating to the front such as Chateau, which offers delicious breakfast and delightful cakes throughout the day and by night offers traditional Lebanese food.

The Italians is a large deli and restaurant to the Western end of Chiswick High Road and Angie’s Little Food Shop is the perfect place for brunch and has just a few tables to the front.

No 197 Chiswick Fire Station, Chiswick High Road

Since opening, No 197 Chiswick Fire Station has been one of the most popular venues in Chiswick. There is seating to the front and a hidden walled garden to the rear for those wishing to dine al fresco. This said, even on warmer days, with the ceiling height and airiness of the place, it’s a delight to eat inside or out here.

Villa di Geggiano, Chiswick High Road

A beautiful fine dining Italian restaurant, Villa di Geggiano has a wonderful large outdoor seating area to the front of the restaurant that is covered and where established greenery adorns the pergola.

High Road House, Chiswick High Road

The outdoor seating area to the front of High Road House is filled throughout the warmer months of the year, and often the cooler months too. One of the smaller and more low key Soho House locations, High Road House is a popular place for local residents to meet.

The Airedale, The Hogarth Health Club

The Airedale Café and Bar at The Hogarth Health Club has an excellent healthy menu and a wonderful outside eating area that looks out onto tennis courts. The outdoor seating pods allow family and friends to enjoy their own space.

Megan’s at the Flower Market, Chiswick High Road

Megan’s opened in Chiswick in 2021 and quickly became a popular eatery in W4. The chain is well known for its bottomless brunch and has previously been voted the best brunch in London. With a terraced area to the front and bi-fold doors that run along a large part of the restaurant, Megan’s is an excellent option for those seeking outdoor dining in West London.

The Crown, Chiswick High Road

Just across from Megan’s is The Crown, a stylish bar and restaurant that centres around a sheltered courtyard. The carefully selected A la carte menu is complemented with cocktails and fine wines. With overhead heaters, this courtyard is a good choice for outdoor dining year-round.  

Outdoor dining Hammersmith

From restaurants with outside dining in Fulham Reach such as The Blue Boat and Brasserie Blanc to larger chain offerings near Hammersmith Broadway including Bill’s and the Bar and Grill at The Lyric Theatre, there are many outside dining options in Hammersmith.

Brackenbury Wine Rooms, Hammersmith Grove

As the name would suggest, The Brackenbury Wine Rooms offers an extensive wine list, together with a brunch, lunch, and evening menu for food. The wine rooms have a wide terrace, seating upward of 40 people, perfect for socialising on the leafy Hammersmith Grove.

Specialising in Italian cuisine and fine wines, the Michelin starred River Café has a well-loved outdoor dining area beside the river.

In the summer months, The River Cafe’s outdoor dining terrace is a go-to destination for locals and visitors, offering eaters spectacular views of the river to enjoy with their outstanding food.

Sam’s Riverside, Crisp Road

Sam’s Riverside restaurant has an enviable position overlooking the River Thames, and for those seeking outdoor dining in West London, the sun-drenched terrace is al fresco perfection. The menu features many exquisite seafood dishes.

The Gate, Queen Caroline Street

The Gate Restaurant is in the very heart of Hammersmith and offers eclectic vegetarian and vegan food. Tucked away on a quiet residential road, The Gate has a secret garden that’s perfect for al fresco dining.

Outdoor restaurants in Shepherd’s Bush

Across W12 there are several outdoor dining options. Restaurants with limited outdoor seating include Little Napoli on Uxbridge Road who serve traditional Neopolitan pizza and Ayam Zaman, also on Uxbridge Road who offer Syrian and Lebanese food, who also have a seating area to the front.

The Hawks Nest, Goldhawk Road

This hidden garden is the perfect place to spend a summer’s day. Entered through a leafy archway adorned with fairy lights near Shepherd’s Bush Market, this tucked-away outdoor restaurant and bar is also covered and has heaters for when the sun goes down.

White City House, Wood Lane

In the few short years since opening, The Soho Group’s West London outpost, White City House has become one of the top hangouts on this side of the city. Restricted to use only by members, White City House boasts a rooftop pool with seating surrounding, making it the perfect place to spend your entire day when the weather is beautiful.

The Wood Lane Arches, Wood Lane

Just moments from Westfield Shopping Centre, near Wood Lane station, are the Wood Lane Arches where you’ll find Prairie Fire, offering Kansas style barbeque food. To the front of the restaurant, there is outdoor seating to relax and enjoy every slow-cooked meat you could dream of.

Westfield Shopping Centre, Ariel Way

Westfield Shopping Centre offers a host of outdoor dining options including Maple and Cabana. Well-known chains such as Franco Manca and Bill’s also have outdoor seating.

Brewdog, Shepherd’s Bush Green 

Brewdog on Shepherd’s Bush Green has outdoor seating to the front; it’s a sun trap where you can see across the whole Green as you enjoy your ‘Hoppy Meal’ and a vast range of draught ales.
