Until 11st August – Richard Allan Exhibition @ Riverside Studios

Richard Allan was a pioneer in the explosion of pattern and colour that helped define the art and fashion of London in the 1960s.

His groundbreaking designs and off-beat colours grew in popularity and were sold to some of London’s most prestigious department stores, including Liberty, Harrods, and Selfridges. As his success grew, he expanded his reach into fashion capitals, Paris, New York and Rome, alongside Australia.

Cate, Richard Allan’s daughter, has added new scarves and interiors to the brands collections: selecting six designs from the Richard Allan Archive and melding her work with her father’s, reworking colours for a contemporary limited edition print collection.

Tuesday 1st August – The Olllam and SÍOMHA @ Irish Cultural Centre

Recently awarded Best Group of the RTE Folk Awards, The Olllam are playing a series of festivals and venues in Ireland, alongside their first shows in England since 2014, including their show at the Irish Cultural Centre, W6.

The Olllam are delighted to annouce that for mnay of the venue dates on their tour of Ireland and England, they will be joined by SÍOMHA.

Every Wednesday – Salsa and Bachata Club @ Rutland Grove, W6, 7 – 11 pm

Learn to dance, have fun, keep fit and meet new friends at Hammersmith Salsa and Bachata Club’s fun and friendly classes. These classes are suitable for dancers of all levels, from beginners to advanced.

No prior bookings are needed. Just show up and get ready to dance the night away. It is recommended that you wear comfortable shoes and light clothing.

Saturday 12th August – Clothes Mending Circle Workshop @ Livat Hammersmith, 1 pm – 4 pm

Visit the Repair Cafe to learn some simple repair skills, meet new people and enhance your skills.

There is no need to book, however you will need to bring an item of clothing to practise with.

Saturday 19th August – The Punch and Judy Man 60th Anniversary Screening and Q&A @ Riverside Studios, W6

Released in cinemas 60 years ago, a dark comedy in which Pinner is invited by the Mayoress to perform his puppet show at the municipal gala dinner. Although both despise eachother, his social climbing wife Delia accepts the invitation on his behalf and he reluctantly goes ahead with the performance in order to save his failing marriage. At the Gala dinner, things do not go to plan but events strengthen the couple’s relationship. 

A Q&A with the Tony Hancock Appreciation Society will follow this show.

Sunday 30th July – The Great Escape @ Chiswick Cinema

Continuing the Centenary Year Celebrations, Chiswick Cinema, will be showing The Great Escape, a popular film about a group of allied prisoners of war who are intent on escaping with several hundred from a German camp during World War II.

Sunday 6th August – Duck Pond Market @ Chiswick House and Gardens, 10 am – 4 pm

Duck Pond Market is an artisan and food market which stretches down the Chiswick House driveway every 1st Sunday of the month. The market will have magnificent local, ethical and sustainable independent businesses, offering products from street food and coffee to arts and crafts, gifts and plants.

Monday 7th August – Friday 11th August – Stagecoach Summer Workshop @ William Hogarth School

The summer workshop will include children working on material from several popular hit shows, finishing with a performance with a culmination of performance they have worked on throughout the week.

Children will be grouped in age appropriate classes giving them the opportunity to perform, meet new friends and gain confidence, all while developing their acting, singing and performance skills.

Children aged 7 – 12 years old can take part in a range of activities including knitting, weaving, embroidery, cross stitching, arts and craft and more.

Until 25th August – Summer holiday art classes @ The Hyde Gallery

Summer holiday art classes suitable for all children over the age of 8, with a passion for drawing and painting, are running throughout the summer at The Hyde Gallery, W4.

The classes present an opportunity for children to explore their potential and develop their artistic skills whilst being in a fun and engaging learning environment.

Classes are structured to be attended as independent sessions but you are also able to book a full week of five sessions. Classes will operate to group size of no more than 6 children so spaces are limited.

What’s on in West London | August 2023

Tuesday 1st August – Saturday 5th August – The Great British Beer Festival @ Olympia London

With over 30 bars, serving everything from dark milds to light and hoppy ales, you can try a selection of beer, cider and perry, including new flavours from the country’s most popular and innovative breweries.

Alongside the various bars, there will be beer-tasting sessions, a variety of street food and snacks, pub games and live music from cover bands and emerging artists.

Tuesday 1st August – Tuesday 15th August – Victorian Outdoor Games @ Gunnersbury Park Museum

Find out how children used to play outside in the time of the Rothschilds with toys like goops, marbles, yoyos, cups and ball. You can also try skipping, hopscotch, skittles, croquet and rhyming games.

Wednesday 9th August – Workshop | Brushstrokes to Brands draw-along @ The Museum of Brands, 2 pm – 3.30 pm

Meet the artist behind The Museum of Brands Brushstrokes to Brands exhibition and participate in the interactive draw-along event.

Replicating one of his favourite paintings, Steven will teach the basics of creating a still life drawing on canvas paper using pencil which you will be able to take home. 

The workshop is suitable for all ages and abilities. No experience is necessary. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult.

Until 18th August – My Little Borders Holiday Camp @ Acton Skate Park, 10 am – 12 pm

Little Borders are holding summer holiday camps suitable for children aged 5 – 16 years old.

Highly trained tutors will tailor the programme to the ability levels of the children. Beginners will learn the basics of skateboarding, including how to get on and off the board, go up and down the ramps and roll stop, whilst those more experienced may tackle the larger ramps.

Tuesday 8th – Wednesday 9th August – Fashion Upcycling Workshop @ Restore W3

Restore are running a two day fashion upcycling camp for sewing enthusiasts aged 10+.

The camp will teach beginners sewing and upcycling skills, and will utilise hand and machine sewing techniques.

All materials are provided but children can bring with them jeans or shirts if they would like too.
