What’s on in Hammersmith | December 2023

Riverside Studios

Inaugural Festive Fun River Run

Sunday 3rd December 

Join the Fulham Reach Boat Club for a 7km festive accessible fun river run in aid of Fulham Reach Boat Club. Fancy dress is encouraged.

The route will start at Riverside Studios and take you from Hammersmith Bridge to Putney Bridge and back again. You can complete the course in your own time whether that’s by running, jogging, walking, skipping or hopping around the course.

Free pre and post refreshments are available at Riverside Studios, alongside prizes for the best dressed and first finishers and festive medals for all.

Wednesday 6th December – Baby Gospel Christmas Family Concert @ Riverside Studios

Baby Gospel returns to Riverside Studios after a sell out show last year.

This family concert is baby-friendly and open to all ages from newborns to school age to grandparents. 

Alongside the usual soul and motown hits, gospel songs, nursery rhymes and bubbles, the whole family can enjoy singing and clapping along to Christmas favourites such as ‘Winter Wonderland’ and carols like ‘Hark the Herald Angel Sing’.

Saturday 9th December – Godolphin and Latymer Christmas Bazaar

Godolphin and Latymer School is set to become a winter wonderland with Christmas trees, decorations and snow.

There will be a diverse selection of external stallholders, student stalls to suit every pocket, a toy emporium, vintage clothing, raffles, tombolas, Christmas wreaths and decorations, and the famous apple strudels.

Mulled wine, teas and cakes, refreshments, burgers and bubble tea food trucks will also be available, alongside live music. Don’t forget to pose for a photo in the Christmas photobooth and to take on the inflatable mega obstacle course in the Sports Hall.

Saturday 9th December – Merry Hammersmithmas @ St Peter’s Church

Petros Singers will be hosting a Christmas concert celebrating the music of composers who have lived and worked in Hammersmith and the surrounding area. 

Join them for carols, candlelight, mulled wine and mince pies.

Sunday 17th December – Mary Coughlan @ Irish Cultural Centre

Mary Coughlan is a talented musician with a dedicated following around the world. Recently, she collaborated with The Brokentalkers and Valgeir Sigurðsson to create a stunning play called ‘Woman Undone’ with a unique, hauntingly beautiful, award-nominated soundscape. The play explores the themes of her songs about love and loss, trauma, and womanhood.

Throughout December – Films in Concert @ Eventim Apollo

Christmas favourites will be projected onto a vast screen with a full orchestra performing its soundtrack live to screen.

Award-winning writer and composer Vikki Stone brings her adaptation of Cinderella.

The story follows a woman named Cinderella who runs her own business at Shepherd’s Bush Market. One fateful day, she encounters a charming man named Prince Henry, who wears a disguise to the Market and falls instantly in love with Cinderella. With the paparazzi following him the Prince is forced to flee. And so begins the quest to unite the unlikeliest of likely romances. But will Cinderella’s step-sisters Muffy and Gusset and step-mother Lady Jelly Bottom interfere with their happily ever after?

Friday 8th December – Introduction to Wood Block Printing Workshop @ Kite Studios

Looking to expand your skill set? Experience the calming art of block printing at Kite Studios’ inviting workshops.

During these workshops, you’ll create your own organic cotton tea towel or shopping bag to take home. All the while, you’ll learn the craft of traditional wooden block printing on fabric, experiment with various colors, and explore the intricacies of pattern repetition and placement.

Friday 1st December – Fish and Chips with the Chiswick RNLI crew @ The George IV, 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm

Participate in table quizzes, buy some souvenirs or chat with members of the Chiswick RNLI Lifeboat Station crew all while enjoying a delicious portion of beer-battered fish, chips, crushed minted peas, tartare sauce, and lemon.

The Addison Singers Oratorio Choir presents Haydn’s The Creation, a musical tour of The Creation narrative contained in the opening texts of The Bible.

Thursday 7th December – Sunday 31st December – The Secret Garden @ Theatre At The Tabard

Join the creative team behind last year’s Five Children and It at the Tabard Theatre and witness this timeless classic brought to life just in time for Christmas.

The story follows young Mary Lennox, a spirited and inquisitive orphan sent to live with her Uncle Archibald in Yorkshire. Struggling to adjust to her new surroundings, she discovers a long-forgotten garden and together with a local boy named Dickon. Together they tend to the neglected flora and fauna, and unlocking the secrets of the garden.

Sunday 10th December – Charming Chiswick Walk

Discover the fascinating history of Chiswick through a guided walking tour. Explore the area’s charming cafes, unique shops, and historic pubs, all while learning about William Morris’s London home and the intriguing stories behind each location.

The Charming Chiswick walk takes place with Alison at 10.45 am outside the exit of Ravenscourt Park Tube and ends on Chiswick High Road, near Turnham Green Tube.

Tuesday 19th December – Coffee Morning @ Gabriel Room at St Michael and All Angels

Take a break and support The Addison Singers from 10am – 1 pm at their coffee morning. Enjoy homemade cake, savoury delights, coffee/tea and chat with others.

Until Friday 22nd December – Storytelling with Santa @ Chiswick House and Gardens

This festive season, Santa welcomes you to his grotto at Chiswick House and Gardens.

Children will enjoy a story from Santa in a small group, before having the opportunity to have their photo with Santa and receive a Christmas gift.

The RNLI Crew will be singing Christmas carols aboard the MV Golden Salamander.

Everyone is welcome to attend their Christmas Carols evening and all donations will be going to the Chiswick RNLI station. Drinks and light refreshments are available to purchase at the bar.

Sunday 24th December – Street Food Market @ Chiswick High Road

No one wants to cook on Christmas Eve. With the freshest Egyptian falafel, traditional Turkish gozleme, Cape Malay curry, Brazilian ribeye steak sandwich, momos from Nepal, London’s hottest dogs, Nigerian barbecue, French galettes and crepes and dumplings, the December 24 market from Food St – at the Old Market Place on Chiswick High Road – could be the best one yet. 

They’re ending 2023 with a bang! With Esme and Ellie from Chiswick Theatre Arts (Elsa and Anna in the school’s recent production of Frozen) singing a selection of Christmas carols, fifteen of London’s coolest street food traders serving up menus bang full of seasonal specials, mulled wine and mince pies and Food St’s secret recipe reindeer food to take home with you and scatter by your fireplace, Chiswick promises to be more Christmassy than the North Pole.

Throughout the festive season, Chiswick Cinema will be showing Christmas favourites including Arthur Christmas, the Polar Express, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Die Hard, Santa Claus and much more.
