For the Culture: For the Comedy

Monday 4th March

Head to the Lyric Theatre for a hilarious night of comedy for an excellent cause.

Comedians include Dana Alexander (as seen on Russell Howard’s Good News and The Culture Show), Dane Baptiste (Live at the Apollo and Mock the Week), Darren Harriott (Love Island Aftersun and C4’s The Last Leg), Aurie Styla (Jonathan Ross’ Comedy Club and C4’s Black, British and Funny), Slim (Live at the Apollo and C4’s Black, British and Funny), Sharon Wanjohi (Comedy Central Live and The Stand Up Sketch Show).

The comedy night is a fundraising event for the Lyric’s ‘For the Culture: Celebrations of Blackness’ Festival – a programme honouring Blackness through art, performance, conversation, love, and joy.

Furnivall Gardens

Women’s Eights Head of the River Race

Saturday 9th March

Get ready to cheer on your favourite teams at the world’s largest women’s rowing race.

The race originated in the 1930s with only 5 crews participating and now boasts around 2,880 women racing and up to 320 crews taking part. It is also the only race in the UK where people can compete with Olympic champions on the same track, making it a truly unique event that attracts rowers from all clubs and universities.

The race runs from Mortlake to Putney, offering plenty of opportunities to spectate along the riverside. One spot is Furnivall Gardens, which offers prime viewing spots.

Calum Scott, a multi-BRIT nominated and multi-platinum singer-songwriter, is performing a one-off headline show at Eventim Apollo.

Comedy with Ardal O’Hanlon, Support from Grace Mulvey and Caroline McEvoy

Friday 15th March

Join Ardal O’Hanlon, a stand up comedian and star of such shows as Father Ted, Death in Paradise, and recently seen in Taskmaster and Would I Lie to You, at the Irish Cultural Centre for his acclaimed comedy show.

Joining Ardal O’Hanlon are stand up comedians Caroline McEvoy and Grace Mulvey, and a special guest MC, who is soon to be announced.

The Motive and the cue

Thursday 21st March

A new play by Jack Thornem directed by Sam Mendes.

The play is set in 1964 and follows Richard Burton, newly married to Elizabeth Taylor, who is to play the title role in an experimental new Broadway production of Hamlet. But as rehearsals progress, two ages of theatre collide, and the collaboration between actor and director John Gielgud soon threatens to unravel.

In a month that marks International Women’s Day, and hot on the heels of a Grammys dominated by female artists, Addison Jazz celebrates female composers and arrangers with Her Song, a concert that ranges from the up tempo I Feel the Earth Move Under My Feet and Ain’t No Mountain High Enough through to the reflective Blue Motel Room from Joni Mitchell.

The Gemini Boat Race

Saturday 30th March

Join thousands of spectators to watch The Gemini Boat Race, one of the world’s oldest and most famous amateur sporting events between the Oxford and Cambridge University.

The race takes place between Putney and Mortlake, with the women’s race beginning at 2.45 pm and the men’s at 3.45 pm.

The fan zones in both Bishops Park and Furnivall Gardens offer spectators a place to enjoy food, drink and entertainment in between the races.

Mother Rugger Gallery and Homewear

Celia Pickering Opening Night

Friday 1st March

Emerging artist Celia Martine Pickering, will be holding her first solo show ‘Unashamedly Colourful’ this March, in Brentford’s newest development and trending new gallery and homewear shop, Mother Rugger. 

Celia is best known for her very popular and affordable, London botanical prints collection, including cards and tea towels. All of Celia’s prints have come from sections of her original paintings, all representing her passion for London’s parks, green spaces and gardens. During Celia’s show, she will be launching her new London, Brentford Design. Along with the original Brentford inspired painting. 

Celia’s original artworks can be found all year round at The Old Cinema, Chiswick High Road and during her annual open house, with Artist at Home (June). Celia sells her artwork over a mixture of platforms, including her Instagram @celiamartinepiceringart and webpage www.celiamartinepickering.com

Boston Manor House to Osterley Park Community Walk

Every first Saturday of every month, between 11 am – 12.30 pm, a group take a walk through Boston Manor Park, along the Grand Union Canal and crosses over to the other side of the River Brent to Osterley Park. These walks are suitable for any ability.
